For spoken-answer puzzles: try Mumble Aloud. For a course routine: consider Duolingo, Ling or Mondly. For your own Czech words: look at official AnkiMobile. If you need conversation or pronunciation assessment, verify that exact tool for Czech before choosing.
Choose the job you want the app to do
This is an English-language guide for people practising Czech. We make Mumble Aloud, and compare the documented features of the current public apps. Inclusion here does not mean every app automatically listens to and assesses Czech speech.

Mumble Aloud: make recall part of a puzzle
Choose Mumble Aloud when you want a clue to lead to a spoken answer. Count place-value shapes in Number Grid, recall hidden pictures in Memory Grid, name a sound source or connect pictures in Match Deck. The current public release accepts English, Czech and Italian answers, with English menus.
It is free with no in-app purchases. Apple’s speech services recognise expected answers; they do not provide a detailed pronunciation score or an assessment of open conversation. Fully offline recognition is not guaranteed for every device and language. Begin with familiar words and an approachable stage, rather than treating the game as a complete Czech course.
Duolingo: put speaking inside a wider routine
Duolingo includes speaking activities and offers focused skills practice for free through its Practice hub. It should not be described as a tool that only asks you to tap. If you need a continuing course as well as a reason to speak, it belongs on your shortlist.
Check individual tools in the Czech course. Duolingo’s current Video Call article lists supported languages without Czech; do not assume that a feature advertised for another language carries over. AnkiMobile: build around words from your life
If your priority is a vocabulary list from a lesson, a conversation or your daily life, a custom deck gives you control over the material. Anki supports text, images and audio, with scheduled review. You can say your answer before revealing the card.
On iPhone, use the official AnkiMobile linked by the Anki project. Its Record Voice tool supports temporary recording for comparison with card audio, rather than automatic pronunciation scoring. Ling and Mondly: verify the Czech course you will use
Ling’s dedicated Czech page presents a course with native-speaker audio and mini-games, including word sorting, missing-word and dialogue-choice activities. That establishes Czech course content. It does not, by itself, verify every spoken-response or pronunciation-feedback feature in that course.
Mondly’s App Store description lists Czech and describes speech recognition and chatbot features more generally. Before choosing it specifically for speaking feedback, check what the current Czech course offers on your device and plan. A long language list is not proof that every advanced feature works identically in every language.
These are reasonable course alternatives to investigate when their teaching format interests you. We have not completed a Czech lesson in either app or measured recognition quality. Their role here is a documented shortlist, not an endorsement of untested Czech speech assessment.
What about Babbel or Drops for Czech?
At the review date, Czech is absent from Babbel’s official language offering and from Drops’ current language catalogue. That makes them unsuitable recommendations for Czech on the evidence checked here. Recheck the current language list if their offerings change.
This is a language-availability distinction, not a claim that those apps lack speaking features generally. A popular language app can be useful for another language while still failing the first requirement of your Czech shortlist.
Can an app tell you whether your Czech pronunciation is good?
Check what the feedback actually measures. Recognising an expected word, playing back a recording and evaluating pronunciation are different functions. Mumble Aloud performs the first; AnkiMobile’s recording tool can support the second. Neither is presented here as a detailed Czech pronunciation assessor.
If feedback on longer speech is your priority, verify Czech support, the kind of feedback and any plan restrictions before committing. A teacher or conversation partner can also provide context beyond whether an app accepted a word.
Build a small routine around your goal
For familiar vocabulary, say a few answers at your own pace, try a short recall activity, then use one word in a sentence. For new material, start with a course or lesson and return to recall after learning the words. Our Czech vocabulary guide includes a worked number example and a short routine.
Adults and families can use different answer languages or take turns with familiar clues. The best fit depends on the material and action you want today; this guide does not establish that one app produces faster learning. Check current regional prices, device requirements and language-specific access before subscribing or purchasing.
